This scene depicts representatives of the Indian Army who had successfully fought in the military campaign in Egypt of August and September 1882, being presented to the Duke and Duchess of Teck at Sutherland Manor, Wimbledon Park (where the men were quartered) on 18 November 1882. Three days later the men received campaign medals from {Queen Victoria|mp4634}. The royal party includes, from left to right: Mrs Edgar, Sir Bartle Frere, the Duke of Teck, Colonel Pennington (in charge of the contingent), Princess (later Queen) Mary, Princess Mary of Teck and Lady Peek.
